Chapter 1: Where are the worlds Rainforests?

The worlds rainforest's are located along the belt of the equator also including the tropics, Cancer and Capricorn. They grow here because it is a warm, humid environment, perfect for a rainforest's system. The main rainforest's are found in Brazil, Africa and Australia. The dotted areas are the rainforests we sould be intrested in.

Chapter 2: Rainforest Ecosystem

Rainforest's are very structured, they have many layers. These include the EMERGENTS, the CANOPY, the UNDERSTORY and the FOREST FLOOR. This is very important to the rainforest as a whole. Eg. The upper layers stop the forest floor from being drowned. The climate graph below the nutrient cycle graph shows how much rainfall and the temperature of a rainforest's each year. The reasons for them being so high is that most of the rainforest's are near the sea, meaning more and more water is joining the cloud's as rain falls. Also the heat is caused by the equator and the suns heat. This is different from the UK because we have hardly any rainfall and the temperature is not as high. The nutrient graph at the top shows that a plant/tree absorbs sunlight and carbon dioxide from the air, and water and nutrients from the soil. A dead leaf/animal/insect will be eaten and recycled before going into the soil as nutrients. It is important to the rainforest because the decomposing matter turns into nutrients. Deforestation can change this by not so many dead leaves falling leaving less nutrients for the surrounding life.

Chapter 3: Deforestation

Deforestation is the biggest rainforest killer. Millions of trees are cut down each year. This means that less oxygen is being released into the world. The causes and impacts of this are going to be very large and may be fatal. Like deforestation impact is less oxygen. Fact: An acre long line of trees only provides the daily oxygen amount 0f 18 people. So the less trees we have, the less oxygen. Deforestation also prevents the surrounding soil form gaining nutrients from fallen dead leaves that would fall every month or so. The thing is many farmers will burn large quantities of land for farmland, of town councils will deforest to build roads or railways etc.
It is mainly happening because of what people want, and they don't usually think about the effect it has on the environment. Some tribes cut down areas of the rainforest but they will come back to it and repeat using it every 30 or so years.

Chapter 4: Rainforest Tribes

There are many tribes in the rainforest and their lives are changing the conyacy they have from the outside world, losing their ways of life at the same time. They have knowledge useful to us so upseting them would be a mistake, so people should think about how they treat the rainforest. Changes in the rainforest will alter thier life by taking away animlas that they hunt, destroying their homes and also moving the indeginous tribes closer to extinction.

Chapter 5: Mining + Cattle Ranching

Mining and cattle ranching are deadly rainforest killers, destroying miles of rainforest a year. Mining destroys small ares of land that will never grow again, and cattle ranchers cut down vast landscapes of trees. They do it to get money and fame, but the more trees that they destroy, is less oxygen to give to the people on earth. FACT: An acre long line of trees, only provides the daily oxygen for 18 people. The less of them there are, the less oxygen shared between people could cause disruption in different community's worldwide.

Chapter 6, The Rainforests Future

The future of the rainforests are being debated. Some people want it cut down where others want it to stay. It is not going to be easy for one sustainable way to come forward without an argument. Unfortuneatley the most likely future is that it will disappear. There will most likley be a strong argument between people like the Tribes and the Constucters, an example of conflict which might happen alot to decide the future of the rainforst. The rainforests only cover around 7-14% of the worlds face. It is disappearing fast and getting smaller every year.
